The natives of rural and forest regions where the attack of wild animals on agricultural crops is common, plant Thura as live fence. Passing by car from any region by seeing this live fence one can easily get information that the wild life is present in surroundings. The natives use this herb as medicine. Mostly it is used as veterinary medicine. They save their much medical expense with the help of this herb. The traditional healers of Chhattisgarh are also having rich traditional medicinal knowledge about this herb. I have written a lot on its different aspects in my previous articles. It is fact that Thura is not a native to Chhattisgarh. This is the reason the natives and traditional healers are having relatively less knowledge as compared to the natives of Rajasthan State. While documenting the information on traditional medicinal uses of cancer herbs I observed the use of Thura in treatment. Although the healers use it less commonly but it is considered as promising remedy in many cases. I am giving the information I have collected on this aspect. The traditional healers of Chhattisgarh Plains use the Thura latex in treatment of cancerous wounds. I have searched the reference literatures for this use. Much work has been done to evaluate the wound healing properties of Thura. But the traditional healers of Chhattisgarh use it in unique way. They irrigate the Thura plants with the help of specific herbal extracts and leachates in order to enrich the plants with medicinal properties. The healers commonly use the latex and leaves of medicinal herb Fudhar (Calotropis gigantea) in order to prepare the extract. The healers informed that both herbs are having great relationship. In nature Thura growing with Fudhar and vice-versa are considered more useful than the both herbs growing at distance. Other herbs are also used to prepare the extract. The healers apply the latex in combination with Sendha Namak. According to the healers this salt nullifies the harmful effects of latex. The senior healers informed about the use of ash collected by burning the whole herb of Chirchita (Achyranthes aspera). They prefer the use of this ash as compared to the salt. The use of combination of this ash and Thura latex is new information for the world community. The healers use it as single remedy. The traditional healers of Gandai-Salewara region collect the Thura leaves and dry it in shade. The patients having lung cancer are advised to burn the dry leaves and inhale the fumes. It is considered beneficial in this trouble. It reduces the pain to great extent. It is used as supplement treatment along with main treatment of lung cancer. The traditional healers of Bagbahera region use the leaves to prepare special oil. They collect the new leaves and boil it in base oil. When all watery contents evaporate the boiling in stopped and after filtration the special oil is kept for future use. As base oil Sarson (Mustard) seed oil is used. This special oil is considered very useful in treatment of cancerous wounds. The healers use it at initial stages. New comments added on March 29, 2007 Through recent surveys in different parts of Chhattisgarh I have collected information about over 300 herbal formualtions in which Thura leaves are added as important ingredient in order to prepare special oil. Instead of quick method of boiling, sun method taking much time is adopted. According to the Healers sun method gives oil of rich medicinal properties. Based on condition of patients the Healers of different regions use different base oil instead of using Sarson oil in all cases. I am trying to write about these 300 formulations very soon. In next section of this article you will find list of these formulations. The traditional healers of Southern Chhattisgarh consider the Thura roots very useful in treatment of cancer pain. They use the roots with Gud (Jaggery) at initial stages and with other herbs at advanced stages. The healers are much impressed by its promising effects. The traditional healers of Sirpur region consider the leaf juice useful in treatment of lung cancer. The patients are advised to take the juice internally up to long time. The healers suggest its use under their strict supervision. According to the conditions of the patients they recommend different doses. They try it up to three months. It is used as single remedy. It is not used with other herbs. The traditional healers of Gariaband region collect the small Thura plants and after sun drying put it in fire. The ash is collected. Cow urine is added in this ash and an aqueous paste is prepared. This paste is applied externally on cancerous wounds. Th healers have deep faith in this use. They use it as supplement treatment along with main treatment of wound. The natives are aware of its toxic nature. This is the reason the patients always use it under the supervision of the healers. In Chhattisgarh by the name of Thura many herbs are known .All are Euphorbia species and very close relatives. But the traditional healers try to use the genuine Thura i.e. E. neriifolia. I am in process of confirmation whether the cancer experts use other species as substitute or not? I will write on this aspect in coming articles. |
