Habitat : — From
the Himalayas throughout India.
An annual ; the
whole plant persistently silvery, hoary.
Stems slender,
copiously branched, both at base and upward,
J-lft. Leaves
simple, sub-sessile, i-lin. long, typically linear,
acute, but
varying to obovate, obtuse, with a mucro. Stipules
minute,
setaceous. Flowers 6-12 ; in copious, dense, sub-sessile
Racemes. Calyx
tV in., silvery ; teeth long, linear-setaceous.
Corolla bright
red, 2-3-times the Calyx. Pod hard, mucronate
silvery under,
j% in. thick.
Use :— It is
given medicinally in febrile eruptions (Honnig-
berger).
[Pankaj Oudhia’s Comment: This
species holds reputed position among the Traditional Healers of India as life
saving medicine. Although modern researchers have not done much work on
different aspects of this species but the Healers have rich knowledge about it.
It is added in hundreds of Herbal Formulations both internally as well externally.

The Santals use
the plant in amenorrhoea along with Eu-
phorbia
thymifolia (Revd. A. Campbell). [Pankaj Oudhia’s Comment: This species is
used in form of over 9000 Traditional Herbal Formulations for treatment of
gynecological troubles including amenorrhea.]
