वट्टाकाका, पन्च पत्री और भिलावा पर पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों के अभिनव प्रयोग

"इतने दुबले कैसे हो गये? और सिर के बाल कहां गये?" मैंने आश्चर्य से पूछा|

युवा पारम्परिक चिकित्सक ने कुछ नही कहा| उसके साथी ने राज खोला कि पिछले कुछ समय से प्रयोग चल रहा है और शरीर की यह बुरी हालत उसी प्रयोग का परिणाम है| मै समझ गया कि पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों ने कोई नई बूटी खोजी है जिसके बारे में उन्हें बिलकुल भी ज्ञान नही है| यह कैसे असर करती है- इस प्रश्न का उत्तर पाने के लिए उन्होंने स्वयम पर प्रयोग आरम्भ कर दिए|

लम्बे समय से पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों के साथ काम करते हुए मुझे सदा ही इन प्रयोगों पर अचरज होता रहा है| एक ओर हम शहरी लोग खान-पान में बड़ी सावधानी रखते हैं| किसी भी नये भोज्य पदार्थ को खाने से पहले इंटरनेट खंगाल लेते हैं| पूरी तरह आश्वस्त होने के बाद ही उसे ग्रहण करते हैं पर पारम्परिक चिकित्सक अपने जीवन को खतरे में डालकर बूटियों का परीक्षण करते हैं| छोटी मात्रा से शुरुआत करके बड़ी मात्रा तक पहुंचा जाता है फिर लम्बे समय तक इनका सेवन किया जाता है| बूटियों के असर को बड़े ध्यान से महसूस किया जाता है| कई बार तो पारम्परिक चिकित्सक प्राण खो बैठते हैं| ऐसे प्रयोगों के लिए उन्हें घर के सदस्यों और मित्रों की ओर से उलाहना ही मिलती है| वे पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों को कोसते रहते हैं| सारे कष्ट सहने के बाद जब पारम्परिक चिकित्सक की पहचान नई जड़ी-बूटी से हो जाती है तो पीढीयों तक इस प्रयोग के लाभ मिलते रहते हैं| ज्यादातर पारम्परिक चिकित्सक अपने अनुभवों को दूसरे पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों के साथ बाँट लेते हैं| बदले में उन्हें दूसरे पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों का ज्ञान और अनुभव मिलता है| इस तरह पारम्परिक चिकित्सा समृद्ध होती रहती है| ऐसे प्रयोगों के बारे में लिख कर नही रखा जाता है| यही कारण है कि इनके बारे में आधुनिक विज्ञान को जानकारी नही हो पाती है|

"क्या आप कैमरे में विस्तार से बतायेंगे कि इस जड़ी-बूटी ने आपके ऊपर कैसा असर किया?" मैंने जब पारम्परिक चिकित्सक से प्रश्न किया तो वह युवा तुरंत तैयार हो गया| मैंने तीन घंटे तक विस्तार से उससे बात की और सारी बातों को कैमरे में कैद करता रहा| पारम्परिक चिकित्सक ने जिस जड़ी-बूटी पर प्रयोग किये थे उसका वैज्ञानिक नाम वट्टाकाका है| एक महत्वपूर्ण औषधीय वनस्पति पर आश्चर्य कि इंटरनेट पर इसके विषय में ज्यादा जानकारी नही मिलती| ज्यादतर गूगल परिणाम उन लेखों के हैं जिन्हें मैंने लिखा है| मुझे लगता था कि मैंने इसके बारे में ढेरों जानकारियाँ एकत्र कर ली है पर युवा पारम्परिक चिकित्सक के अनुभव जानने के बाद लगा कि जैसे मै कुछ भी नही जानता|

इस प्रयोग में पारम्परिक चिकित्सक ने केवल वट्टाकाका का सेवन किया पर आने वाले दिनों में वह इसका प्रयोग आस-पास जंगलों में उपलब्ध ढेरों जड़ी-बूटियों के साथ करने की मंशा रखता है| निश्चित ही वट्टाकाका पर महाग्रंथ की रचना होती दिखती है| मैंने अपने अनुभव के आधार पर उस पारम्परिक चिकित्सक को ऐसी जड़ी-बूटियाँ बताई जो वट्टाकाका के बुरे प्रभावों को काटती हैं| मुझे यह जानकारी झारखंड यात्रा के दौरान मिली थी| यह जानकारी मेरे दिमाग के किसी कोने में रह गयी थी पर मैंने कभी नही सोचा था कि इससे किसी का भला हो सकेगा|

जब मैं इस तरह के अनूठे प्रयोगों की बात करता हूँ तो मुझे अनायास ही सिवनी के एक लेक्चरर याद आ जाते हैं जिन्हें जड़ी-बूटियों के विषय में गहन रूचि थी| वे प्राचीन ग्रंथों में लिखे प्रयोगों को न केवल पढ़ते थे बल्कि जड़ी-बूटियों का जुगाड़ कर उन्हें अपने ऊपर आजमाते भी थे| उनके प्रयोग दिल दहलाने वाले होते थे| एक बार तो वे भिलावा का सेवन लम्बे समय तक करते रहे| मौत के करीब जा पहुंचे तब उन्होंने प्रयोगों को रोका| उनके अनुभव की कोई मिसाल नही मिलती है मुझे| भिलावा के विषय में मैंने उनसे ढेरों जानकारी हासिल की| मैंने उनके अनुभवों को प्रकाशित करने की सलाह दी पर वे तैयार नही हुए| एक समय उन्होंने आंवला का सेवन करना शुरू किया| बड़ी मात्रा में लम्बे समय तक और फिर उसके दिव्य प्रभावों को अनुभव किया| कुछ कडवे अनुभव भी उन्हें मिले|

जड़ी-बूटियों के ऐसे प्रयोग करने वालों को इसकी बड़ी कीमत चुकानी पडती है| बहुत कम सौभाग्यशाली पारम्परिक चिकित्सक होते हैं जिन्हें लाभ करने वाली जड़ी-बूटी ही मिलती है और ऐसे प्रयोगों से वे रोगमुक्त लम्बा जीवन प्राप्त करते हैं| ज्यादातर पारम्परिक चिकित्सक तो विषाक्तता के कारण जटिल रोगों के शिकार हो जाते हैं| उनका अंतिम समय कष्टमय हो जाता है| सिवनी के जिन महान आत्मा की बात मै कर रहा हूँ वे कालान्तर में श्वेत कुष्ठ के शिकार हो गए| वे जानते थे कि उन्होंने बावची का मनमाना प्रयोग किया था | शायद श्वेत कुष्ठ उसी का परिणाम था| भिलावा वाले प्रयोग ने अपना रंग उन पर दिखाया और वे मुंह के कैंसर के शिकार हो गये| वे आख़िरी समय तक वापस लौटकर अपने प्रयोगों को दोहराने की बात करते रहे ताकि कैंसर से वे मुकाबला कर सके पर परिवार वालों ने उन्हें आधुनिक यातना गृह यानी कैंसर अस्पताल में रखना तय किया| वे नही बच सके|

अभी लेख में बावची का जिक्र आया| ल्यूकोडर्मा या श्वेत कुष्ठ हुआ नही कि बावची का नाम लिया जाता है| चाहे रोगी बच्चा हो या वृद्ध बस बावची के उपयोग की सलाह दी जाती है| भारत में ही नही अपितु आयुर्वेद का हवाला देकर अमेरिका जैसे देशों में भी| बावची उपयोगी है पर सबके लिए सभी दशाओं में नही| बच्चों के लिए तो बिलकुल भी नही| यह तो हमारे प्राचीन ग्रंथों में भी लिखा है साफ़-साफ़| पारम्परिक चिकित्सक वैज्ञानिक तर्कों के साथ इसे समझाते हैं पर फिर भी बावची का प्रयोग जारी है| बावची की बाजार मांग से आप इस बात का अंदाज लगा सकते हैं|

मुझे याद आते हैं कालेज के वे दिन जब हम अम्बिकापुर के समीप अजीरमा फ़ार्म में ट्रेनिंग ले रहे थे| जड़ी-बूटियों में मेरी रूचि देखकर एक पारम्परिक चिकित्सक ने पंच पत्री का पौधा दिखाया और कहा कि यह कामोत्तेजना बढाने के लिए वरदान है| बस फिर क्या था, जवानी के जोश में मैंने पारम्परिक चिकित्सक द्वारा बताई गयी विधि के अनुसार पन्च पत्री का सेवन करना शुरू कर दिया| पर यह क्या| सारी प्रतिक्रियाये उल्टी साबित हुयी| सारे यौन अंग शिथिल पड़ गए और मन निराशा या कहे आशंका से भर गया| काम विषय पर चर्चा भी व्यर्थ लगने लगी| ऐसा एक सप्ताह के अंदर हो गया|

दौड़ा-दौड़ा पारम्परिक चिकित्सक के पास गया तो पता चला कि महोदय तो एक सप्ताह के लिए किसी मरीज को देखने गये हैं| उस समय तो मोबाइल भी नही था| अब क्या करे| दूसरे पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों से चर्चा की तो उन्होंने टिप्पणी करने से इन्कार कर दिया| जैसे- तैसे दिन बीते और अल सुबह ही पारम्परिक चिकित्सक के आने की खबर सुनते ही मै साइकिल लेकर उनके गांव की ओर चल पड़ा|

मैंने एक सांस में सारी बाते कह दी पर उनके चहरे पर आश्चर्य का भाव ही नही आया| मुझे अब गुस्सा आने लगा| मुझे गर्म चाय देकर वे स्नान और पूजा करने चले गए| चाय का स्वाद अजीब था| मै पास के तालाब की ओर निहारने लगा| कुछ युवतियां पानी भरने जा रही थी| शायद नहाने भी| पर मै किसी सन्यासी की तरह बिना किसी शारीरिक प्रतिक्रिया के उन्हें देखता रहा| अपनी उस बुरी स्थिति से मै रो पड़ा|

"पहला सबक जीवन का- कोई अनजान (या जानकार भी) यदि कुछ खिलाये तो सावधानी बरतो| आँखे मूँद कर किसी पर विश्वास न करो| यदि नई वनस्पति है तो खाने से पहले उसकी काट के बारे में पता करो या फिर वह स्थान देख आओ जहां यह उग रही है| वहां इसकी काट मिल जाएगी| " पारम्परिक चिकित्सक ने कड़े शब्दों में कहा|

"मैंने जानबूझकर सबक सिखाने के लिए यह सब किया| तुमने जो माँगा मैंने उसका विपरीत दिया| यह जड़ी-बूटी सन्यासियों की जड़ी-बूटी है| पर चिंता की बात नही| चलो उस स्थान पर चलते हैं जहां से मैंने इसे एकत्र किया| " ऐसा कहकर वे पास के जंगलो की ओर चल पड़े| फिर पंच पत्री के पौधों के पास रूककर बोले " वो तीन पत्तियों वाली जड़ी एकत्र करो| यही तुम्हे वापस लेकर जाएगी|"

उस जड़ी के कुछ समय के सेवन के बाद मैंने अपनी प्राकृतिक यौन क्षमता को फिर से पा लिया| उस समय कम उम्र होने के कारण मेरी प्रतिक्रिया मिली-जुली रही| ऐसे किसी और प्रयोग के डर से मैंने उनसे दूरी बढा ली| उन्होंने भी जोर नही लगाया पर आज जब दो दशकों के बाद मै उन्हें याद करता हूँ तो मेरा सर आदर से झुक जाता है| उन्होंने जो सीख दी उसने मेरी जान कई बार बचाई| मुझे नई वनस्पति पर प्रयोग का गुर भी उन्होंने सीखाया| उनका दिया ज्ञान मेरे माध्यम से जड़ी-बूटियों का स्वयम पर प्रयोग करने वाले लोगो की भी जान बचा रहा है| पंच पत्री का जो प्रयोग मैंने किया अपने ऊपर जीवन में मैंने उसे कई बार दोहराया और फिर दूसरी वनस्पतियों के माध्यम से अपनी मूल स्थिति में लौटा| इससे पंच पत्री के नए गुणों और अवगुणों का पता चला| आधुनिक विज्ञान इससे अभी भी अपरिचित है और शायद हमेशा रहेगा क्योंकि उनके सारे प्रयोग बेजुबान पशुओं पर होते हैं| और स्वयम पर प्रयोग के लिए कोई तैयार नही होता है| (क्रमश:)

शरद पूर्णिमा आने वाली है| सालों से उन पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों के अथक परिश्रम और निस्वार्थ सेवाओं को देख रहा हूँ जो हर साल बेसब्री से इस दिन की प्रतीक्षा करते हैं और फिर शरद पूर्णिमा की रात जब हजारों की संख्या में श्वांस रोग से प्रभावित आम लोग एकत्र हो जाते हैं तो रात भर जागकर बिना थके उन्हें अपने हाथों से बनाई विशेष खीर खिलाते रहते हैं| इसके लिए कोई पैसे नही लिए जाते हैं| दूध से लेकर शक्कर और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण जड़ी-बूटियों सभी का खर्च स्वयम वहन करते हैं|

"ये तो जस का काम है|" वे कहते हैं|

उन्हें असंख्य लोगो की दुआएं मिलती है| इससे बढ़कर और क्या हो सकता है भला|

क्या एक बार एक चम्मच या उससे कुछ अधिक मात्रा में खीर का सेवन मौसम भर श्वांस रोगों से मुक्त रख सकता है? यह अहम् प्रश्न है विशेषकर आधुनिक युग के सन्दर्भ में क्योंकि आज का मानव दूषित वातावरण में रहने को मजबूर है| खाने और पीने का कोई भरोसा नही है| फिर वह आधुनिक दवाओं का आदि हो गया है | ऐसे में जड़ी-बूटियाँ भला कब तक उन्हें श्वांस रोगों से बचा कर रखेंगी? फिर समय के साथ श्वांस रोग भी जटिल हो गए हैं| जड़ी-बूटियाँ वही पुरानी की पुरानी है| ज्यादातर पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों ने अपने पारम्परिक मिश्रणों को मजबूती नही प्रदान की है नई जड़ी-बूटियाँ मिलाकर| इसलिए कभी-कभी तो लगता है कि जैसे शरद पूर्णिमा के दिन का आयोजन मात्र एक औपचारिकता ही रह गयी है| पर ऐसा सभी मामलो में नही है|

वर्ष १९८८ में जब पहली बार ऐसे आयोजनों के बारे में सुना तो इनमे रूचि जागी| उसके बाद जो पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों से मिलने का सिलसिला आरम्भ हुआ वह अभी तक जारी है| हजारों पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों से मुलाक़ात हुयी| कुछ वर्षों तक शरद पूर्णिमा के दिन खीर बांटने का पवित्र काम किया| रात भर चलने वाले भजन में भाग लिया| भंवरे की तरह पारम्परिक चिकित्सक रूपी फूलों से रस एकत्र करता हुआ अनायस ही विशेष खीर का जानकार बन बैठा| इतने सालों बाद इस बार मन हुआ कि क्यों न इस बार मेरे अपने गाँव में इस अनूठी सेवा को आरम्भ किया जाये| मुनादी करवा दी गयी| दूध और चावल का प्रबंध किया जा रहा है| कौन सा औषधीय मिश्रण खीर में मिलाया जाए, इस पर माथापच्ची होती रही| ज्यादा ज्ञान अनिर्णय की स्थिति में ला देता है| पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों की शरण ली तो उन्होंने दो टूक कहा कि उन वनस्पतियों का प्रयोग करो जो गांव में उगती है पर कभी भी आम लोगों को इनके बारे में न बताओ| उन्हें कहो कि बड़ी मुश्किल से दूर घने जंगल से बूटियाँ लाई गयी है| इसका असर कुछ और ही होगा|

मुझे आज बस्तर के पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों की याद आ रही है जो कहते रहे हैं कि शरद पूर्णिमा उपयोगी जड़ी-बूटियों की शुरुआत का दिन है| जड़ी-बूटियाँ हर सप्ताह ली जानी चाहिए शीत ऋतु की समाप्ति तक| उनका कहना है कि यदि शीत ऋतु में जंगल और खेतों का नियमित भ्रमण करे तो हर सप्ताह नई वनस्पति दिखाई देगी और ये नई वनस्पतियाँ ही माद्दा रखती हैं उस समय काल में होने वाले रोगों की चिकित्सा में| यह माँ प्रकृति का उपहार है| सारा कुछ आस-पास बिखरा हुआ है| आवश्यकता है तो बस माँ की बात समझने की|

पारम्परिक चिकित्सकों से लम्बी चर्चा और शोध यात्रा के दौरान कुछ ऐसे भी पारम्परिक चिकित्सक मिले जो हजारों की संख्या में श्वांस रोगियों को एक ही प्रकार की जड़ी बूटी देने से नाखुश दिखाई दिए| उनका कहना था कि प्रत्येक रोगी के लिए उसकी जीवनी शक्ति और रोग की स्थिति के आधार पर औषधी का निर्धारण करना चाहिए| ये वही पारम्परिक चिकित्सक हैं जिन्होंने स्वाइन फ़्लू के समय सभी लोगों को गिलोय उपयोग करने के अनुमोदन को सही नही ठहराया था| वे अपनी बात को स्पष्ट करने के लिए अदरक का उदाहरण देते हैं| जरा सी भी सर्दी हुयी नही कि आम लोग घरेलू नुस्खे के रूप में अदरक की चाय का उपयोग करने लगते हैं| लम्बे समय तक अदरक की चाय पीने वाले लोगों की संख्या भी कम नही है| बहुत कम लोग जानते हैं कि अदरक त्वचा रोगियों के लिए हानिकारक है| श्वेत कुष्ठ के रोगियों को तो अदरक से दूरी बनाये रखने को कहा जाता है| बहुत से पारम्परिक चिकित्सक हृदय रोगियों को अदरक का प्रयोग सम्भल कर करने की सलाह देते हैं| इसलिए बड़ी संख्या में लोगों को साधारण अनुमोदन के स्थान पर प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के लिए औषधी विशेष का प्रयोग जरुरी है| ऐसा विचार रखने वाले पारम्परिक चिकित्सक संख्या में कम है पर पारम्परिक चिकित्सा में उनकी बात भी सुनी और मानी जाती है|

मेरे गाँव के आस-पास जंगल नही है, भले ही यहां से कुछ दूरी पर बड़ी संख्या में जंगली सूअर और सियार जैसे जंगली जीव मिल जाते हैं| ये दूर जंगल से भागकर आये हैं और फिर पास के सदा भरे रहने वाले बाँध के आस-पास डेरा जमाए हुए हैं| बेशरम की सघन झुरमुट को ही जंगल मान बैठे हैं| उनके पास और कोई रास्ता भी नही है| जंगली जानवरों के "मॉस मर्डर" की खबरे तो आपने पढ़ी ही होंगी| हाल ही में राजधानी के पास के इलाके में दसों बन्दर मरे पाए गए| उन्हें जहर दिया गया था| कुछ दिनों तक ये दिल दहला देने वाली खबरे सुर्ख़ियों में रही| उसके बाद उन अभागे बंदरों की ही तरह खामोश हो गयी (या कर दी गयी)| पेंड्रा में आम लोगों ने एक भालू को पीट-पीट कर मार डाला| यह खबर भी हाशिये में चली गयी| फिर पिछले सप्ताह एक शेरनी के साथ भी ऐसा ही हुआ है| लगता है कि मॉस मर्डर की एक गलत परम्परा ने राज्य में जन्म ले लिया है और फल-फूल रही है| चलिए, विषय पर वापस लौटते हैं| तो गाँव के आस-पास जंगल न होने के कारण खेत में उग रही जड़ी-बूटियों का सहारा लेना होगा|

अभी धान की फसल लगी हुयी है| धान की खेती में भरपूर कृषि रसायनों का प्रयोग होता है| इतना अधिक की जिन खेतों से पहले पकते धान की मादक सुगंध आती थी अब वहां से असहनीय बदबू आती है| ये रसायन निश्चित ही कीटों को मारते होंगे पर मुझे लगता है कि इतनी बदबू से कीट पहले ही किनारा कर लेते होंगे| इन खेतों से उपयोगी वनस्पतियों का एकत्रण यानि नये रोगों को आमन्त्रण है| मुझे अपने ही खेत दिखाई पड़ रहे हैं जहां इस बार औषधीय धान की किस्मे लगाई गयी है| जैविक खेती हो रही है| वैसे इस बार अधिक वर्षा होने के बावजूद अधिक जैविक आदानो की आवश्यकता नही पड़ी| लगता है कि पारम्परिक औषधीय ज्ञान अभी भी नये मजबूत कीटों और रोगों से लड़ने का माद्दा रखते हैं|

यदि ताजी जड़ी-बूटियाँ प्रयोग करनी है तो जिस दिन इनका प्रयोग किया जाना है उसी दिन एकत्र की जानी चाहिए| यदि सूखी जड़ी-बूटियाँ प्रयोग करनी है तो सीधे सूरज की रोशनी में सुखाने से बचना चाहिए और छायेदार स्थानों में सुखाना बहुत श्रम साध्य और समय लेने वाला काम है| ऐसे में जड़ी-बूटियों को काफी समय पहले से एकत्र करना जरुरी है| बहुत सी जड़ी-बूटियों और विशेष औषधीय मिश्रणों को सुखाने की विशेष विधियाँ है| मधुमेह के बहुत से नुस्खों में प्रयोग होने वाली जड़ी-बूटियों को पीपल, गस्ती, कलमी, कांके जैसे औषधीय वृक्षों की छाँव में सुखाने का नियम है| छाँव का कार्य विशेष है| यह जड़ी-बूटियों के गुणों को नष्ट नही होने देती और उन्हें औषधीय गुणों से परिपूर्ण भी करती है|

जब मैं इन विधियों के बारे में लिखता हूँ तो बड़ी दवा कम्पनियों में काम कर रहे मेरे मित्र और प्रशंसक प्रश्न खड़ा करते हैं कि मै ये सब किसके लिए लिखता हूँ? क्योंकि दवा कम्पनियां तो ये सब करने से रही| आम आदमी भी इन सब ताम-झामो से दूर रहना उचित समझता है| फिर किसके लिए इन विधियों की व्याख्या? क्या महज दस्तावेजीकरण के लिए? मैं उन्हें उत्तर देता हूँ कि यह सब लिखा जा रहा है नई पीढी के शोधकर्ताओं के लिए| भले ही जड़ी-बूटियों के पारम्परिक ज्ञान में रूचि लेने वाले लोग घट रहे हैं पर ऐसे प्रयास जरूरी है कि पारम्परिक ज्ञान को उसके मूल रूप में दस्तावेजों के रूप में सुरक्षित रखा जाए| दस्तावेज ही क्यों फिल्मों के माध्यम से भी, जैसा कि आजकल मैं यूट्यूब के माध्यम से करने की कोशिश कर रहा हूँ| सो, भले ही परिस्थिति आशाजनक न हो पर फिर भी बहुत से युवा शोधकर्ता इन दस्तावेजों से प्रभावित दिखते हैं| वे पारम्परिक प्रयोगों को आधुनिक विज्ञान की कसौटी पर कसना चाहते हैं| वे दुनिया को दिखाना चाहते हैं कि उनका अपना देश भारत पारम्परिक चिकित्सकीय ज्ञान के क्षेत्र में सदा से ही अग्रणी रहा और रहेगा| कुछ वर्षों पहले अंकोल पर लिखे मेरे लेख से प्रभावित होकर कुछ युवा शोधकर्ताओं ने इसके फलों के एकत्रण की पारम्परिक विधियों पर शोध किया| फलों को जमीन पर गिरने से पहले एकत्र करना था| इसके लिए नाना प्रकार की लकड़ियों के पात्र तैयार किये गये और फिर बांस की सहायता से बिना फलों को हाथ लगाये सीधे ही पात्रों में एकत्र कर लिया गया| उन्होंने अपने प्रयोगों से दिखाया कि इस तरह से फलों के एकत्रण से उनके औषधीय गुण नष्ट नही हो पाते हैं और उनसे तैयार औषधीय मिश्रण विशेष रूप से लाभकारी होते हैं| (क्रमश:)
